Steven White

Steven WhiteHighly regarded for his inspirational leadership and musical integrity,
White is one of North America’s premiere opera conductors. Future engagements include appearances with L’Opéra de Montréal (Lucia di Lammermoor), Pittsburgh Opera (L’elisir d’amore), Baltimore Opera (Roméo et Juliette and Manon), Fort Worth Opera (Lucia di Lammermoor), Opera Roanoke (Hänsel und Gretel and Fidelio), and the Naples Philharmonic (La bohème and Tosca). In November 2006 he was widely praised for his conducting of internationally televised concerts at the United Nations and Alice Tully Hall, with Rolando Villazon and the Greek National Radio Symphony Orchestra. Also garnering worldwide attention and critical esteem were his performances of L’assedio di Corinto with Baltimore Opera in October of 2006. Other highlights of the 2006-2007 season included appearances with Vancouver Opera (I puritani), Michigan Opera Theater (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Spoleto Festival USA (Festival Finale Concert), Syracuse Opera (Lucia di Lammermoor), the Naples Philharmonic (Le nozze di Figaro) and Opera Roanoke (La bohème and Macbeth).

Mr. White has conducted at New York City Opera (Don Giovanni, Carmen, La bohème), Baltimore Opera (
L’assedio di Corinto, I puritani, La sonnambula) Opera Colorado (La traviata), Arizona Opera (The Merry Widow, Tosca, Don Pasquale), Vancouver Opera (Lucia di Lammermoor, La fille du régiment, I puritani), Sarasota Opera (Werther), Syracuse Opera (Don Giovanni, Les contes d’Hoffmann, Macbeth), New Orleans Opera (Lucia di Lammermoor), Wichita Grand Opera (Lucia di Lammermoor), Nashville Opera (Pagliacci), Opera North Carolina (Madama Butterfly), Wolf Trap Opera (L’elisir d’amore), Madison Opera (outdoor Gala Concerts) and Indiana University Opera Theater (La traviata).

Mr. White has conducted the Philharmonia Orchestra for a CHANDOS recording of arias featuring soprano Elizabeth Futral. He has also conducted the New World Symphony Orchestra, the Spoleto Festival Orchestra, the Colorado Symphony, the Syracuse Symphony, the Charleston Symphony, the Florida Philharmonic, the North Carolina Symphony, the Madison Symphony Orchestra, the Naples Philharmonic and many other orchestras.



Scott Williamson


Familiar to Opera Roanoke audiences since 1998, Scott Williamson bowed in the pit for an acclaimed performance of Rigoletto in 2004. As Associate Condcutor for the 2005-2006 season, Williamson will be featured on the podium in the "Gala Fantasy" concert. In addition to his duties assisting Maestro Steven White in preparing the musical productions, he will appear on stage in La Traviata and The Marriage of Figaro. Williamson has also appeared in Acis and Galatea, Madama Butterfly, Lucia di Lammermoor, and served as Chorus Master for these and other productions. He led a performance of Menotti's The Old Maid and the Thief in 2000. He has conducted the Connecticut Choral Society & Orchestra, the Grace Choral Society of Brooklyn, and appeared throughout the Shenandoah Valley with University ensembles & orchestras.

He was Director of Choral and vocal activities at Shepherd College from 1999-2002, where he created and led the Opera and Music Theater curriculum. He served as Associate Director of Choral and vocal activities at Washington & Lee University from 1996-1999, and has since returned as a soloist, guest conductor, and clinician.

International stage credits include Iro in Monteverdi's Il Ritorno d'Ulisse in Patria with the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme, and Agenore in Mozart's Il Re Pastore with New Kent Opera. With Bronx Opera he has appeared as Alfredo, and the Magician in Menotti's The Consul. With Sarasota Opera, Williamson bowed as Schmidt in Werther and Spoletta in Tosca, and was a soloist in the US premiere of Verdi's Messa solenne. Other concert appearances include Monteverdi's Vespers of 1610 with the Folger Consort, Bach's Christmas Oratorio with the Washington Bach Consort, Beethoven's 9th Symphony with the Maryland Symphony, and Honegger's King David with the Glens Falls Symphony.
